Belong awarded first Give London grant
Belong London specialises in enabling rehabilitation and recovery amongst individuals who have perpetrated gang affiliated and/or violent offences, offenders with mental health problems and/or learning difficulties, and people who have been victims of violent offences.
Awarded ÂŁ3,972 in early August, the Give London grant has allowed Belong London to increase their staffing levels over the past few months. This has freed up a proportion of management time so that managers have been able to focus more on improving the monitoring and evaluation of their programmes, for instance by putting in place revised measurement tools, and analysing existing data.
The increased staffing levels have also enabled them to deliver their art therapy services at HMP and YOI Feltham to young people on a one to one basis, whereas previously they only had the staffing capacity to work with young people in groups. This has been of great value to young people who are unable to take part in groups because of safety problems that stem from their previous gang involvement.
In addition, the grant from Give London has led to Belong’s management being able to increase the time spent developing existing partnership with London prisons, resulting in a new grant being made to Belong for targeted restorative justice work to help reduce violence in a London prison.
