Mazi Mas awarded first Give London grant
MazĂ Mas is an innovative roaming restaurant that serves global home cooking and supports long-term unemployed migrant and refugee women to gain paid employment, launch careers in the culinary industry, and become full and equal participants in UK society.
Over the past three years Mazi Mas have created jobs for 15 long-term unemployed women, two-thirds of whom have found other paid employment as a result of working with them. 2015-2016 marked the first year they were able to keep their restaurant open and provide stable employment to their chefs continuously for 14 months, but had to end their most current residency in east London due to lack of core funding. Since January 2016, Mazi Mas has been funded through trade revenue alone.
The ÂŁ3,972 Mazi Mas received through their Give London grant in early August has gone towards funding management salaries which will help allow them to develop a strategy to achieve their vision and growth for long term sustainability.
